Storm Chasing Preps
I’m getting ready for my first season of storm chasing and wanted to document what materials I’ve read or what events I’ve attended.
I’m not after a tornado. Don’t get me wrong, it’d be pretty exciting. But, I’m more interested in the general beauty and sometimes staggering power of the skies.
Guide to Weather by Ross Reynolds
Weather by William James Burroughs, Bob Crowder, Ted Robertson, Elinor Vallier-Talbot, Richard Whitaker
Tornado Alley: Monster Storms of the Great Plains by Howard B. Bluestein
Big Weather: Chasing Tornadoes in the Heart of America by Mark Svenvold
The Svenvold and Bluestein books were my two favorites. Bluestein gives a very nice scientific description of severe weather phenomenon while Svenvold dives into the culture of storm chasing and its characters.
I’m hoping to turn my chasing experience into a feature, photo essay or short film so if you know someone who’d be interested in publishing any of that, let me know.
