The AP Goes All 2.0
According to the New York Times, the AP is going all 2.0 on your backsides. It is a little ironic though that the AP’s multimedia wire service ASAP closed up shop on October 31.
But then again, maybe it isn’t ironic. Maybe they learned from their mistakes and are ready to make another go at it. One can only hope. I am a fan of non-profit news organizations so I hope they find a model that works. A good start might be revamping their 1.0 Web site that is still built with (oh the horror) tables.
On a slightly related note, apparently the New York Times tried to go all 2.0 on us, as well. Did you know when you double-click on any word in a Times article, it pops open a new page with a definition, encyclopedia entry, and other related info. It appears this ability has been around for a while with some calling it more of a bug than a feature.
I’d tend to agree with them. I accidentally triggered this feature trying to highlight the title of a story. Accidentals are usually never a good thing in UI. This one’s a little too cute, although certainly better than the annoying Snap previews.
