CoPress - Building a Community
I have faith in the future of journalism.
Some bright college undergraduates are well on their way to developing a community and platform for publishing news at college campuses across the country.
When it’s all said and done I’m confident that many news organizations will actually have a lot to learn from CoPress, and may even be interested in joining the community.
Before I get any further, I’d like to point any online editors at college newspapers to the first CoPress survey.
For far too long, most of the news industry has failed to invest in smart web people.
Instead, news companies have invested thousands of dollars in one-time redesigns and rollouts - technologies and products that stagnate until the next time they need to play catchup to the rest of the web.
We can no longer rely on a small team of developers, building on closed technologies, to meet the needs of hundreds of clients. Like George, we must do the opposite.
Our Web sites and products need to be living organisms because we are living organisms, with changing needs and new aspirations. They need to continually evolve and this is where CoPress can play a significant role.
CoPress will help us build a huge community of developers and web-savvy journalists who all work toward a few common goals. The result will be good for college campuses across the country, and hopefully beyond.
